Audio-Technica VMN40ML replacement VM540ML and VM740ML stylus
This Audio-Technica VMN stylus replaces the worn stylus of a VM (MM) cartridge. Every diamond stylus wears after a period of playing: around 500 hours for a conical stylus, 300 hours for an elliptical one, 1000 hours for a MicroLine and 800 hours for a Shibata stylus.
Full description
Every diamond stylus of a cartridge shows wear after a period of playing.
This is around 500 hours for a conical stylus, 300 hours for an elliptical stylus, 1000 hours for a MicroLine stylus and 800 hours for a Shibata stylus.
However, this also depends on the tracking force used, the quality of the records being played and other factors.
Nude diamond styli are more expensive, but also a good investment because of their much longer lifespan and much more detailed reproduction of the vinyl pressing.
It is advisable to clean the stylus regularly with special cleaning products, which you can also buy at Audiofrenzy.
Microlinear STYLUS
A Microlinear diamond stylus offers high-frequency response with less wear and distortion than elliptical or conventional line-contact styli.
