Van den Hul MC - Digi-Coupler 75 Ohm digital interconnect RCA or BNC
The Van den Hul Digi-Coupler 75 Ohm is a digital interconnect (RCA or BNC) designed for the highest possible transmission quality of S/PDIF digital audio (consumer format, 75 ohm), for both the critical audiophile and the professional. A very constant and accurate impedance of 75 ohm ± 0.5 ohm up to 3 GHz; the strict RF design also benefits the transport of video and RF signals well into the gigahertz range.
Full description
The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm has been specially designed with the highest possible transmission quality of 75 ohm impedance-level SPDIF consumer-format digital audio in mind and is aimed at both the critical audiophile and the professional.
The special design of the DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm covers all aspects needed for flawless and reliable transmission of SPDIF digital audio over short distances and long studio distances, providing considerable improvements in your audio quality.
The cable's strict HF design likewise benefits the transport of video and HF signals well into the gigahertz range.
Features:
- The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm has a very constant and accurate 75 ohm impedance: 75 ohms ± 0.5 ohm up to 3 GHz.
The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm has very low signal attenuation per unit length. For example: at 100 MHz the attenuation is only 0.11 dB/m. (See the HF performance graphs in the sidebar for more information.) Low signal attenuation (i.e. low signal loss) is especially important when using long cables (e.g. in professional/studio applications). To maintain optimal signal quality, a maximum signal-to-noise ratio is required at the signal receiving end. The signal must therefore be attenuated as little as possible during transport. This of course applies equally to digital audio and to video and HF signals. Low signal attenuation also contributes positively to immunity against external noise, although this starts with good shielding:
- The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm is a so-called "Superscreened" or "Low Transfer Impedance" cable.
To maximise performance and keep the signal in and noise (RFI and EMI) out, the highest possible shielding factor is required. Without compromise, the design of the DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm therefore features a so-called "triaxial construction" using multiple shields of the highest quality.
The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm uses at least 3 densely braided shields, 3 foil shields and a saturated outer layer of Linear Structured Carbon® (LSC); the combined shielding factor results in extremely high shielding attenuation and extremely low transfer impedance, which entitles the cable to the designation "Superscreened".
The superior immunity of the DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm to radio-frequency and electromagnetic interference allows long lengths to be used without problems. Several lengths can be used in parallel without risk of mutual interference, even with other cabling (e.g. in cable trays).
- The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm has a very high frequency bandwidth.
For example: the -3 dB bandwidth of a 10 m cable is 770 MHz. (See the attenuation graph in the sidebar for more information.)A high bandwidth is important: a digital SPDIF audio signal contains frequencies extending far beyond the normally specified minimum bandwidth (~6 MHz). Although this minimum bandwidth provides usable transmission, accurate data transfer and low-jitter clock recovery in noisy environments benefit in practice from greatly increased bandwidth: The digital audio signal consists of elementary data units (bits) in the form of zeros and ones. These are square waves (crenellated elements) whose vertical edges serve as boundaries for the signal receiving circuit (e.g. D-to-A converter) to retrieve the signal clock and recognise the recorded bit values. Cable bandwidth decreases with the cable length used. Lower bandwidths increasingly cause the edges of the square waves of the digital audio signal to become rounded and, over time, smeared (intersymbol interference). This hampers the ability of the receiving circuit to determine the individual bit values and their timing correctly. So-called "jitter distortion" and the "bit error rate" increase, and audio quality decreases.
- The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm features very pure, dense, silver-coated twisted shields and a robust, wear-resistant jacket of our HULLIFLEX® polymer insulation material. All this offers optimal protection against external chemical (corrosive) attack and guarantees a very long service life.
With professional, broadcast and high-resolution applications in mind, the design of the DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm has all the technology on board for exceptional performance without compromise.
The DIGI-COUPLER 75 Ohm offers the cleanest possible signal transport in all applications with a 75 ohm impedance level and is the ultimate choice for the critical audiophile, videophile and professional.
