Sorane tonearms and parts have been made and assembled exclusively by hand since Katsuaki Ishiyama founded the company in 1974. Even though basic parts are made on CNC milling machines, assembly remains handwork: parts are hand-fitted and adjusted so that the mechanical contact between the surfaces is ideal.

Since founding the company in 1974, Katsuaki Ishiyama-san has built up and accumulated design and development know-how for various tonearms (and other analogue equipment), all of which are manufactured and assembled exclusively by hand. In his conviction, fine-tuning of various analogue gear is only possible through the precise and sensitive hands of craftsmen.
Even though they apply modern CNC milling technology in their own factory to produce basic parts, their expertise still relies on the work of their craftsmen, especially during assembly, so that many parts achieve idealised mechanical surface contact with one another through hand tuning and hand adjustment.
