We at Pro-Ject Audio Systems are strongly convinced that a power supply is a very important part of the audio path and contributes considerably to the sound quality of an audio product. To offer maximum sound quality and to isolate the phono preamplifier optimally from mains interference, we designed the battery-powered Power Box RS Phono.

Pure and clean power is very important wherever low-level signals are amplified. A turntable cartridge delivers the lowest signal level of all known audio signal sources. The typical level of a low-output MC cartridge is about 0.2 mV = 0.0002 V. Such a low-level signal is very vulnerable to all kinds of interference and noise.

When Power Box RS Phono is connected to Phono Box RS and switched on, only the batteries are connected (adapter and charger are physically disconnected), so Phono Box RS is completely isolated from mains interference. When the battery voltage drops and reaches certain limits at which further playback would endanger the condition of the battery, the charger is connected automatically. This status is indicated by an LED on the front panel. Everything continues without limitation and playback remains possible, but the benefit of complete isolation is lost for the charging period. Even though the greatest benefit is temporarily unavailable, the battery now acts as a very large filter bank and the sound is still much better than with the standard power adapter. When the battery is fully charged, the charger is disconnected and Power Box RS Phono again powers Phono Box RS from the battery packs alone
