Van den Hul The Optocoupler MKII Toslink

With the OPTOCOUPLER Mk II, we are convinced we have one of the best optical fibre cables on the audio market.

What makes the Van den Hul OPTOCOUPLER Mk II special is the fact that both ends of the single fibre are shaped as a convex (spherical) lens, which offers many advantages:

The lens-shaped input and output faces of the OPTOCOUPLER Mk II provide extra focusing of the light beam. Light entering the cable at an angle is focused and therefore undergoes 50% fewer wall reflections per unit length in the fibre (i.e. the light path is shorter).

This not only reduces the loss of light intensity (attenuation) (even when the cable is bent), but also considerably reduces the time difference between light rays passing through the fibre at different angles (so-called modal dispersion); a light pulse passing through the optical fibre therefore undergoes less time spreading, and this effectively reduces the jitter distortion your D/A converter experiences.

- The convex fibre ends of the OPTOCOUPLER Mk II also provide a better-controlled fibre surface making contact with the optical transmitter and receiver side. This keeps optical insertion losses to a minimum.
